Waha: Using our Voice to Advocate for Positive Change

Across 2023 we have used our voices- individually and collectively in many ways to advance the Waikato Wellbeing project kaupapa. As part of the choir of Waikato change-makers, we’ve also humbly lent our voices to support the other awesome people making a difference as well.

As well as what’s been mentioned already, some of the other ways we’ve supported positive change include:

·       Making submissions to the government on key inquiries and change proposals such as the Productivity Commission’s A Fair Chance for All Inquiry and the Future for Local Government review report

·       Our bi-monthly newsletter (this is edition 17!) which we sent to over 800 stakeholders on our database and shared through our various social media channels.

·       Over 25 video stories which have shared the incredible work of change makers and activators in the community- from Lots of Little Fires, Waikato River Clean Up, Te Ara Poutama, SDG Seminars, to webinars on kai and food sovereignty.

·       Over 50 virtual and in-person presentations, wanaanga and webinars to community groups and leaders at the national, regional and local scales

·       More than 1000 posts on our social media platforms

·       More than 150,000 views on YouTube of our Lots of Little Fires videos

We’ve also continued to grow and develop our digital and on-line presence through continuous upgrades to our Waikato Wellbeing project Website – www.waikatowellbeingproject.co.nz, our LinkedIn, Instagram and Facebook channels and our dedicated channels for Lots of Little Fires on YouTube, Facebook and Instagram.

We’ve got lots more ideas on how we can scale up our voice in the Waikato, joining in with community leaders who are making a difference and guiding us all towards a more sustainable future- keep posted for more updates in early 2024!
