The Hauraki Opportunity is a flagship project of Te Ara Poutama, designed to deliver in co-construction with the people of Hauraki a repeatable Wellbeing Measurement and Management System that measures what matters to them, so that their needs, aspirations, and priorities can be further understood and evidenced, and so that – aligned to the intentions of Te Ara Poutama - important choices regarding the present and future wellbeing of the region can be made wisely.
The purpose of the Hauraki Opportunity is to deliver in co-construction with the people of Hauraki a repeatable Wellbeing Measurement and Management System that measures what matters to them, so that their needs, aspirations, and priorities can be further understood and evidenced, and so that important choices regarding the present and future wellbeing of the region can be made wisely (repeats above)
The project has been funded by the Waikato Wellbeing project and through a grant provided by Trust Waikato. It has been developed in partnership with Te Tara o te Whai- The Hauraki Health Locality Alliance, Thames Coromandel District Council, Hauraki District Council and Matamata Piako District Council. The project is being rolled out in 4 Stages:
The project has progressed in the Plan stage, with key milestones being the completion of outcome hui in Thames, Coromandel, and Kaiaua, as well as initial meetings and conversations across the area including in Colville, Whitianga, and Morrinsville. More are scheduled in the coming weeks. These hui involved a mix of general community representatives from local community organisations as well as representatives of youth / Rangatahi, older persons / Kaumātua, rainbow community, those living with disability, and those in rural/remote areas.
Face to face hui have been augmented by online public engagement (https://www.waikatowellbeingproject.co.nz/hauraki-opportunity/ ).
The web page shares information about the project and gives visitors the opportunity to take a two-minute survey as a ‘taster’ for the full survey that will come out later in the year to gain insights for what we measure, socialise the project and brand, and collect contacts for the survey distribution later in the year. We will monitor incoming traffic and responses to the website and ask for project partners to share engagement details from their communications.
Once the Outcome hui and broad engagement are completed, the team will use the information gained from these steps to complete the Draft Impact Thesis, Measurement Plan, as well as the survey questions. These tools will be developed with the communities, with opportunities to provide feedback throughout, before they are finalised.
When the survey is ready, it will be distributed to residents of Waikato using the relationships and tools -including a video introduction - built up over the previous two phases. The success of phases 1 and 2 will result in a wider pool of possible survey respondents, especially for populations and places of interest.
We are working with project partners and others in the Waikato community to ensure the Hauraki Opportunity builds on other data and knowledge processes underway, and we are intentional about what is measured. The Measurement Plan when delivered will include further detail on this.
